Product information

  • Product Name:Surge Comparison Tester with Hipot and Insulation Resistance (ST-6200P)

Description

SURGE COMPARISON TESTER is a high potential surge type device used to detect and analyze insulation faults and asymmetry in the electrical windings by balance and comparison method. This instrument is effectively employed to test Stator coil windings. Provision for varying surge voltage from 500V to 6 KV is made available. Faults like turn to turn, Phase to Phase short, improper connections, grounding insulation defects, open winding and wrong number of turns can be immediately detected. The surge comparison tester produces high voltage pulse and monitors their decay within the windings being tested. Two high voltage capacitors are initially charged and then discharged into the winding through a set of SCRs which are triggered at 50Hz. High voltage surges are applied to the winding under test and master windings simultaneously. The resulting voltage decay pattern in each winding is displayed on the LCD screen. If two windings have no fault and are identical, the two traces will also be identical and will superimpose on one another appearing as a single trace. If the test winding has an insulation fault or any other fault, its pattern will differ from that of the standard winding and double trace is observed on the screen. Because the faults are indicated on a DSO in this equipment, by looking at the pattern displayed one can easily identify the nature of the fault and determine the cause of defect. One of the greatest advantages of this equipment is that turn to turn short circuit can be detected easily.
